On Drainpipe Blue, I pay homage to the album Midnight Blue by Kenny Burrell. I aim to fuse traditional blues guitar language and texture with contemporary rhythmic language.

This album is an evolution of my ideas exploring the polyrhythmic possibilities of quintuplet and septuplet based rhythm and initially documented on my 2019 album "Old Man Rock".

Whilst there is nothing unique about these units of rhythm, my work has its foundations in traditional, 4/4-based, rudimental drumming language which I have systematically adapted into quintuplet and septuplet based studies.
These studies have given rise to numerous unique drum set grooves which have then become the initial impetus for this collection of compositions. Furthermore, these studies, when transferred to the guitar, have allowed me to devise a rhythmic language which allows me to navigate quintuple and sextuplet based music with an idiosyncratic phraseology.
